Requirements

  • Certification: US CPA designation (current CPA license required).
  • Experience:
    • 8+ years of US Tax experience in a CPA firm handling complex tax returns, reviews, examinations, and research.
    • Minimum 2 years of experience representing clients before tax authorities.
    • At least 1 year of experience supervising and directing tax staff.
    • Current work experience at another CPA firm in the US.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (or equivalent accounting hours required); Master’s degree in Taxation preferred.
  • Continuing Education: Minimum 40 hours annually.
  • Membership: Must be in good standing with the American Institute of CPAs.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with tax automation/workflow software (e.g., CCH ProSystem fx Tax) is a plus.
  • Soft Skills: Strong client service orientation, teamwork, creative problem-solving, independent work ethic, and excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Work Environment: Must be able to work in a hybrid model at the Atlanta office.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Tax Director to join our Tax team in Atlanta. This direct placement opportunity is ideal for a tax professional from a reputable CPA firm with extensive experience handling complex tax returns, reviews, examinations, and research. The ideal candidate has proven client representation skills before tax authorities and is skilled in managing and supervising tax staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform technical tax reviews and approve complex federal, state, and local tax returns and governmental examinations.
  • Ensure all income tax returns are prepared timely, accurately, and in compliance with applicable laws.
  • Delegate and manage tax research projects to deliver efficient, high-quality outcomes.
  • Participate in client meetings and tax planning efforts, assisting with larger engagements.
  • Serve as a resource for tax preparers and specialists on complex tax issues.
  • Assume direct client service responsibilities when delegated from the Partner.
  • Communicate key tax developments impacting client engagements to appropriate personnel.
  • Supervise and provide on-the-job training for a team of up to 12 tax professionals.
  • Collaborate with the Audit Department on larger client engagements as needed.
